As an educator and facilitator, I use my observational, interpersonal, and communication skills to plan, coordinate, and deliver presentations, workshops, and events. Lecturing, designing, and working in public health, and government services, I have engaged with a wide range of people of different ages, ethnicities, and abilities; from community and government groups, to health professionals, university and college students, and people in research areas.

I expand upon existing knowledge and adapt methods of translation to appropriate ways of communicating to connect with all types of audiences. Through creating a supportive environment, I bring people together in ways that are relatable and respectful. I encourage thinking and problem-solving beyond what is already known and experienced.

My teaching expertise focuses on: environmental, experiential and communication design studies, design ethnography, human geography, and place-based theory, and encourages teaching and learning through interdisciplinary methods. I have taught through face-to-face and online workshops, lectures, and field trips, both independently and in collaborative teaching modes. I have also designed and coordinated units, wrote lecture programs, and initiated and managed collaborative partnerships and projects between students and external organisations and people.

I have also been a health educator influenced by my lived experience of bowel cancer and endometriosis. My health translation work brings together my academic knowledge coupled with my lived health experiences. Through this intersection I facilitated dialogues and disseminated information between researchers and consumers to strengthen health services and policies.

I have been a member of: the Tasmanian Collaboration for Health Improvement’s Consumer and Community Advisory Panel; Family Planning Tasmania’s Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Focus Group for the planning and implementation of the state’s first endometriosis clinic; Health Consumers Tasmania; Bowel Cancer Australia; and the Cancer Council’s Community Advisory Network, and was involved with the Cancer Council’s advocacy work to gain awareness around the financial impact of cancer as part of evidence for a related senate enquiry. I have worked on research and consumer-focused projects at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Naarm/Melbourne. I was an associate investigator for a prehabilitation bowel cancer care and digital infrastructure project submission, and advised with the design of e-health platforms for online healthcare treatment and teaching.
